Anderson’s River Cave Expedition
The River Cave expedition at Ian’s is one of the most unique tours available, less intense than the waterfall tour but equally as interesting. During one of these tours, your group will take part in an underground expedition in which you will explore ancient Mayan ceremonial centers, pottery, artifacts, altars, blades, jade, and even footprints from Mayan shaman and priests from 400 A.D., all from the comfort of an inner tube floating down the river!
On this adventure, a professional guide will narrate all the interesting geological and historical facts about the underground river as you float through such spots as the famed underground cathedral in which you will learn so much about the Mayan mysteries. To get into the cave you will have to undergo a 15-minute drive to the Caves Branch River, then tube just about 100 feet into the cave’s entrance. For lunch, you will partake in perhaps one of the most unique dining experiences of your entire life, an underground riverside picnic. Lay out on blankets and enjoy tortillas and cold cuts, as well as fresh local fruit and vegetables, all by the light of your own helmet headlight, with the sounds of the ancient cave keeping you company in the background!
