Not just any fish tank, the Birch Aquarium houses an oceanographic museum featuring discoveries made by the same scientists that attended the world-renowned Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego. Now it's your travel group’s chance to learn and spread awareness of the delicate balance suspended in the oceans of the planet. Adventures and exhibits offered are not limited to: tide pooling, whale communication, coral spawning, seahorse nursery, climate change simulation, harnessing renewable energy, shark reef, and dive shows!
You may or may have not noticed the climate change, but you’ve certainly heard of it. Now, Birch invites you to get involved with the Feeling the Heat Climate Challenge. Explore your own personal role in the changes taking place with global temperature, but also learn exactly how scientists have tracked these phenomena across centuries.
In There’s Something About Seahorses, your group discovers what qualifications these little critters have that classify them as fish! Visit tiny babies in the seahorse nursery, and find out what you can do to make sure they’re around for a long time!
ElasmoBeach introduces visitors to sharks and rays in a 13,000-gallon tank! Make your arrangements to arrive at 10:30 am on Tuesdays, Thursdays or Saturdays to see feeding and watch these glorious creatures dine on their favorite snacks!
Whales: Voices in the Sea exhibit is the fascinating depiction of exactly how whales communicate, and what they appear to be saying to one another! Explore the sounds of six different kinds of whales and see rare footage of the natural habitat of the beaked whale.
These and other incredible exhibits beckon to the friends of our sea life far and wide. Right now, you can take a virtual tour or tune in to the live Kelp Cam!
