Galveston Railroad Museum
The Galveston Railroad Museum is an exciting place to visit as we have a wealth of information regarding the history of rail cars and railroading that made our country what it is today. - GRM
Welcome to the Galveston Railroad Museum, the museum first opened in 1983 that is dedicated to the restoration, observation, and re-use of historic facilities and equipment including a fully stocked 4-acre railyard and 5 tracks.
This museum is owned and operated by the Center for Transportation and Commerce and was established with funds from prominent Galveston businesswomen and philanthropist, Mary Moody Northern. The museum stands as a part of the Strand Historic District and is a popular location for guests young and old alike looking to learn a little bit more about our railroading past.
Inside the museum, you will be able to 'see historic locomotives and indoor displays of artifacts'. See the world's largest collection of railroading dining ware, a model train theater, and even get the chance to take a Saturday Train Ride aboard the Harborside Express. The Harborside Express is an open-air caboose that travels 2 miles up Harborside Drive then returns, offering guests a quick but fun 15-minute long ride. Field trip groups will have a chance to ride this train, tour rail cars, and even eat lunch in a historic rail dining car.
