Soufriere
Backed by the Piton mountains, cradled by tropical rainforest, and caressed by the sea, Soufriere is a destination of luxury, pampering, and exquisite sights. From natural hot springs to sugar plantations, historic attractions, and botanical gardens, Soufriere is the ultimate destination for vacationers looking to unload their worries in exchange for the quintessential Caribbean experience.
Just south of the city are the Pitons where you can find a number of historic plantation estates, some remain in operation. The Morne Coubaril Estate, a working sugar plantation, is an adventure destination with more than just history to keep your interest. Come and learn about how the plantation makes pure sugar cane syrup, cocoa, and coffee and stay for the zip-lining tour through the Pitons. La Haut Plantation, though it isn’t an adventure attraction with zip lines, is a historic coconut and cocoa plantation and the only one in Soufriere with views of the Pitons.
Located on the southwest side of St. Lucia, Soufriere hugs the calm Caribbean sea with beautifully pristine beaches and serene waters. Anse Mamin Beach is a perfectly secluded beach with postcard views of the blue sea and overhanging palm trees leaning from the tropical forest. Near an old plantation for interesting exploring and with some of the best snorkeling on the island, this beach is sure to inspire visions of serenity.
With such close proximity to the Pitons and the tropical rainforest, Soufriere has many natural wonders for adventurous excursions. Within the Pitons is the Sulphur Springs, the world’s only “drive-in volcano” where you can drive to the edge of the boiling springs and look down on the natural wonder from a safe distance. Going a little further away from the main springs, visitors can enter the cooler mud pits for a relaxing dip in the natural spa. Also a hot springs spa, the New Jerusalem Mineral Baths take advantage of the waterfall and hot springs on site. Here you can find beautiful views of the forest, a warm bath, and fun with friends.
Soufriere, as a tourist destination, has several cultural and artistic attractions for tourist enjoyment. The Diamond Botanical Gardens is a multi-award-winning attraction with a natural waterfall, on-site restaurant, mineral baths and spa, nature trails, and gardens. Filled with lush landscaping, exotic plants, numerous birds, and more, you never know what you might see or experience at Diamond Falls.
