Mariners Museum
The largest nautical museum in the country invites your group to experience the wreck of the ironclad USS Monitor at Virginia Beach's own Mariners Museum. See gold from the 13th century, the giant striking eagle figurehead that once steered the USS Lancaster, and a whirlwind of other instruments users throughout the history of the seven seas here!
The entire collection boasts just around 32,000 items from ammunition to astrolabes, giving your group plenty to see and learn about while here. The astronomical arts were imperative to smooth navigation, as you will see within the series of astronomy-related exhibits. The 60,000 square foot museum pays homage to the incredible stories of survival and the tragedies of the grim fate that over time have collected either upon shores or along the turbulent floor of the ocean. This is something all the history and maritime story lovers are going to really enjoy, so be sure to plan a stop here!
