Fort Ord Dunes State Park

Fort Ord Dunes State Park

Once a military training base, Fort Ord Dunes State Park refashioned several miles of the Monterey Bay coastline into a recreational wonderland complete with hiking and biking trails, a beautiful boardwalk, and military-inspired educational exhibits.

Fort Ord Dunes State Park was created in 2009 as a way to stay true to the natural landscape as well as the national history of the old fort. The coastal dunes, as pictured above, are among the most beautiful natural features of the park alongside the bright blue waves of the Pacific. Hike the 979 acres of trails and coastal wilderness, explore the boardwalk, fish in the Pacific or windsurf on the rolling waves, and explore the history of the park's army base at the Fort Ord National Monument. Sit on the shore and observe the wildlife in the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary off the coast, many of the animals wander onshore frequently.

New campground projects are underway to renovate the area, making way for a new wave of visitors for the coming years.
