USS Bowfin Submarine Museum

USS Bowfin Submarine Museum

Open to the public since 1981, the USS Bowfin Submarine Museum and Park is the perfect place for your group to go to be immersed in Hawaiian military history, and US military history in general. It is located right next to the USS Arizona Memorial Visitor Center, an easy trip addition when visiting Pearl Harbor.

The USS Bowfin is a fleet attack submarine that fought in WWII, a Balao-Class U.S Navy submarine named after the local Bowfin fish. This sub was nicknamed the Pearl Harbor Avenger, officially launched 1 year after the Pearl Harbor attack (1942).

Inside the museum find a collection of submarine artifacts that represent the rich history of United States submarines. The museum holds additional historical artifacts from WWII, as well as a massive exhibit on naval ships presented in the actual submarine. See the Poseidon Missile, a C3 missile mock-up that weighs 12,000 pounds, as well as many other Bowfin artifacts like the Bowfin Bell, second battle flag, and crew member purple hearts. You will also see other submarine battle flags, bells, and an outdoor Waterfront Memorial that is dedicated to 52 submarines as well as over 3600 officers that were lost in WWII.

School groups will want to opt-in for an educational tour, the perfect way to 'submerge yourselves in the history of submarines'.
