Truckee River Whitewater Park
Believe it or not, you can find some of the area's best whitewater opportunities in the heart of downtown Reno, at the Truckee River Whitewater Park!
Truckee River Whitewater Park features 11 drop pools, totaling 2,600 feet in length or 1/2 mile. There are 5 pools in the northern channel and 6 in the southern channel, with 7,000 tons of smooth, flat-top rocks scattered throughout for easy spectating and maneuvering. This section of the Truckee River provides Class II and III rapids, making it the perfect spot to learn, hone your skills, or try new tricks. You will see some more pro kayakers doing maneuvers such as cartwheeling, throwing ends, spoofing, front flips, and front and side surfing.
Your group can take part in kayaking, canoeing, rafting, or inner tubing while here, with rental and lesson opportunities from local company Sierra Adventures. Maybe whitewater rafting isn't your thing? That's fine, many people like to come to spectate from the rocks or Arlington Street Bridge. There is also a nearby grassy park featuring greenspace and an onsite amphitheater that regularly hosts special events, such as the highly popular Reno Riverfest each Spring (check out the video below).
