Audubon House and Tropical Gardens

Audubon House and Tropical Gardens

A historic Key West landmark, the Audubon House and Tropical Gardens hold more than just artwork within its halls, but life and history.

Today the house is known for its collections of John James Audubon artwork and the first edition works though the house was originally owned and built by Captain John Huling Geiger, a Key West native in the early-mid 19th century. The historic landmark was set for demolition in 1958 but was, thankfully, saved by a non-profit educational foundation and renovated to serve the community as a house museum. The house's renovation was the largest and the first of its kind in Key West, making it an even more inspiring visit for your traveling group.

History buffs will enjoy the tales of the former owners, the house's legacy, and its position in the community. Art enthusiasts, on the other hand, will gravitate toward the Audubon pieces and period furniture, the hand-painted lithographs done by Audubon himself, an 1840 style nursery, and much more. Also located at the house is the Tropical Gardens. Take a relaxing stroll through the orchids and rare tropical palm trees, herb garden, and other beautifully landscaped areas full of sensory-inviting flora.
