Powerhouse Science Center
Interactive, kid-friendly, and hands-on, this natural history museum is one stop your group isn’t going to want to miss. The Powerhouse Science Center provides guests with a variety of different exhibits, programs, and summer courses, the entire campus an exceptionally educational one overall. For over 65 years this museum (formerly known as the Discovery Museum) has been showing guests the importance of science, technology, engineering, and math, the goal of the museum to engage and inspire.
The exhibits featured here will allow your group to ‘explore the wonders, possibilities, and responsibilities of science’, a task it has done well since 1951. The current popular exhibit is the ‘Eat Well, Play Well, Live Well’ physical science and health exhibit, a great opportunity to show kids and adults alike the importance of physical fitness and overall healthy habits. Nature Discovery is also a popular stop to make here, featuring information over different birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, and other invertebrates through recreated indoor habitats, interactive activities and hands-on experiences.
Note that this museum is currently in the process of switching locations, moving to the historic PG&E Powerhouse building in Waterfront Park. This new 25,000 square foot center features an updated planetarium dome, revamped Challenger Learning Center, and an overall heavier focus on earth, conservation, astronomy, and space sciences. Conveniently this location is also only 15 minutes from the California State Railroad Museum, so we would plan to see both!
