Pikes Peak
America's Mountain
As the 2nd most visited mountain in the entire world, Pikes Peak is a MUST SEE while your group visits Colorado Springs. Technically, it truly is a must-see, as there is no possible way you won't see this mountain, either up close and personal or in the distance, during your visit.
You may have heard the term '14ers' around here, and that reference comes from the height of Pikes Peak, which is 14,115 feet. From the summit you can see views of 5 different states on clear days; Colorado, New Mexico, Kansas, Utah, and Arizona. To get to the summit you can either take the free shuttle from Devil's Playground or you can venture up the 19 miles of scenic Pikes Peak Highway yourself. Aside from excellent views at the top, you will also be able to visit the Summit House, famous for its iconic high-altitude donuts. There is currently (2019) a new Summit House Complex being built, but you can still visit the old and get your coffee and donuts!
Your group can also visit the North Slope Recreation Center to hike, bike, or fish, the Crystal Reservoir Gift Shop to pick up your perfect Pikes Peak souvenir, and the Historic Glen Cove Inn along the way. We suggest you try and get in for a 'Meet the Ranger' program while here, allowing your group access to more information on Pikes Peak history, geology, nature, wildlife, and events. Learn how this mountain inspired the tune 'America the Beautiful', how it sits within 4 different Colorado life zones, and how it was named after the American explorer Zebulon Pike.
