Oregon Museum of Science and Industry
The Oregon Museum of Science and Industry, or OMSI, is the area’s premier science and technology learning center, founded here in Portland in 1944. This museum itself opened in 1992, though the organization of people behind it began its mission all the way back in 1906. Meetings were held throughout the city and then later that year the group put together a ‘national resources’ exhibit within the City Hall Museum.
Today the Museum of Science and Industry works hard to ‘inspire curiosity through engaging scientific learning and experimentation,’ a dedication that has brought over a million visitors to its campus since opening. This museum is actually one of the top science centers in the U.S, holding a heavy international reputation for interactive exhibits and educational programs.
Inside this large scientific wonderland, your group will find 5 different halls full of over 200 interactive exhibits and activities, each suitable for guests of all ages. Your group can get your hands dirty in any of the 7 labs - or maybe just make your hair stand on end! You may also explore the USS Blueback Submarine, the Planetarium, the Motion Simulator, the Theater (featuring both scientific and Hollywood blockbusters), the children's Scientific Playground, and even the new Riverfront eatery.
Explore any of the permanent exhibits or special exhibits, currently featuring such topics as Guitar- Instruments that Rocked the World, Game Masters, and Space. This is the perfect place to let loose and have some fun while learning, and don’t forget that when you get hungry you have an onsite restaurant with healthy, tasty options for kids and adults alike!
