Institute of Texan Cultures
Welcome to the Institute of Texan Cultures, the UTSA cultural heritage museum featuring several history and art exhibits representing all the various cultures of Texans. This museum is a Smithsonian affiliate and works to teach a lesson in diversity by exploring the various contributions of different cultures through music, dance, food, stories, traditions, religion, artisan skills, and ways of life.
Your group will be able to explore cultures and stories of people from across the globe who call Texas home with the various exhibits, some of the most currently popular including Brewing up Texas, El Dia de Los Muertos, Urban Nature Hidden Culture, Viva Hemisfair!, and San Antonio 1860s-1990s.
Your group can opt in for a guided docent tour if you wish, a self-guided exhibit tour, or if you are in a school group, a curriculum based field trip tour. Some options for these tours include the Exhibit Floor, Back 40 Living History Area, and the Geometry Lab. Each tour lasts about 1 hour. Teachers will also get these educational benefits:
• Exhibits, programs, and special events designed to entertain, inspire, and educate
• Outreach programs to schools and other groups
• Teacher-training workshops
