Frank Lloyd Wright Graycliff Estate
Built in 1931 by one of our nation's greatest architects, Frank Lloyd Wright, the Graycliff Estate is a must-visit for architecture lovers in the Buffalo Niagara area.
This home is located just minutes south of downtown Buffalo, the summer estate sitting lakeside off of Lake Erie. The estate offers history and architecture tours to guests interested in learning more about Wright and his work, an excellent opportunity to immerse yourself in the work of Frank Lloyd Wright.
Graycliff is set on a gray cliff (hence the name), with unbeatable views of Lake Erie. The home was first built for Isabelle R Martin and her husband Darwin D Martin, who used it as their summer home from 1927 to the mid-1940s. During your tour, you will learn more about the Martins and their relationship with Wright, and of course, learn all about the interior and exterior design elements of the home itself. Graycliff features elements that let in optimal light and show maximum views of the lake below, from the cantilevers to the onsite ponds' reflections.
Take a Standard 1-hour Tour and see the gardens amid the 8.5 acres of grounds, as well as the first floor interior of the Isabelle R. Martin house. You can also choose to take the Extended Tour, which is the same as the standard but with a half-hour added on and access to the 2nd floor of the main home. There is also a question and answer session included with this tour option.
