Salt and Pepper Shaker Museum
This next stop is a truly Tennessee unique one, a visit to the one and only Salt and Pepper Shaker Museum. Within the confines of this quirky museum, you will find shakers from all of the world, and from many different time eras. Each different salt or pepper shaker within are made from a wide range of materials, with a total of over 20,000 sets inside! This establishment is located on Brookside Village Way in Gatlinburg, in what is considered to be the Winery Square. Learn all about how this is the world’s only museum of its type, the only other ways to see such a collection besides in person with an online virtual tour or visit their ‘sister museum’ in Spain. Get ready to be seriously impressed by the 20,000 set collection aside from the huge pepper mill collection within this fun unique museum.
The entire collection has taken just about 25 years to collect, the owner and her close family believing that the shakers can ‘show changes in society that can be found reflected in the shakers’. You will see shakers from the 1500s, 1800s, 1920s, 40’s, 60’s, and even today as you explore the floors full, and you will even get those burning question on the top of your head answered, such as ‘which shaker has the most holes; salt or pepper?’ See braille shakers and cow shakers, each piece of art that represents a culture and creativity particular to that time and region. The many themes and colors of shakers will go great alongside the information about the over 1500 pepper mills around the world, pepper berry facts, salt production videos, and even story and viewing of the $60 million shakers, gold plated as the Salt Cellar. With all these truly interesting facts and displays, it’s no wonder TripAdvisor awarded this museum the excellence certificate last year!
