Kaloo is a word of Panama origin that literally translates into meeting place, which is just what chef and owner Camille Ratton wants to convey in this artful cafe. Located on Calle 31 in San Jose, this cozy, modern, and casual cafe opened in late 2007 and has since then gained quite the local and international following. This, La Cuchara de Camille Ratton, prides itself mainly on "interactions that occur around a table spread," a sacred ritual in which community ties are set. Ms. Ratton sees this as a habit worth preserving in today's world and considers her cafe a good way to start. She herself is of French and Costa Rican origin and brings the flavor of each into her dishes. The menu consists of dishes that creatively combine the best features of modern cuisine and the highest quality fresh and local ingredients.
