Also known as the Elephant House, this landmark is the historic home of Edward Gorey, American playwright, puppeteer, author, and illustrator. This notable individual lived and worked out of this lovely New England home from the mid-1980s until his death in 2000. Today, the house is a museum attraction preserving the legacy of Edward Gorey and showcases Gorey's unique collections, possessions, and artwork.

Exhibits highlight Gorey's illustrations such as his Envelope Art collection, book illustrations, and his illustrations of famous authors. A tour through his home will elicit fascination and delight, intrigue and inspiration as you explore the life of Edward Gorey, his success, work, and personal life. The house and setting are stunning and a popular attraction for groups of all types.

The house is closed to tourists from January through mid-April and regular tours run from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm Monday through Saturday, noon to 4:00 pm Sundays.
