The Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, or BPO for short, was first founded in 1935. It has found its permanent home inside the Kleinhans Music Hall, where it has been since 1940. Kleinhans is a National Historic Landmark that was designed by Eliel and Ero Saarinen and has an international reputation as one of the finest concert halls in America. The hall has been called 'one of the most acoustically perfect halls in the world' and is known for its ingenious combination of 'graceful structural beauty and extraordinary acoustics'.
The orchestra itself has hosted several distinguished guests since its inception, some famous examples including Yo-Yo Ma, Isaac Stern, and Sergei Rachmaninoff. BPO has made over 50 recordings in its history and taken part in 2 tours abroad. The orchestra serves as Buffalo's cultural ambassador and presents over 120 classics, pops, rock, kids, and youth concerts each year.
