Lady Bird Johnson Wildlife Center

A public botanical garden outside downtown Austin, the Lady Bird Johnson Wildlife Center strives to educate visitors on the nature of Nature. Founded by our former first lady, this center was created to preserve native North American flora under the idea that not only is plant life rapidly diminishing but that native plants also tell a story of where you are in the world. The center showcases seasonal gardens, changing exhibits of artwork and photography, as well as its permanent walking trails, guided tours, and informative programs.

Bluebonnets, wine cups, scarlet sage and an awe-inspiring amount of other beauties grace this impressive garden. The Family Garden makes learning about nature fun for children with play stations that incorporate nature and exciting activities. Kids can climb on fallen trees, play in the water, or explore the small caves and rock formations, all surrounded by beautiful native plants. Also be sure to visit the Meadow, planted with central Texas wildflowers, or the Wetland Pond where you can find aquatic plants and animals. From the Little House Garden to the various Inspiration Gardens, this wonderful botanic center works to envision a better, brighter future for our earth starting with its own curious visitors.

Walking tours, a café, gift shop, and observation tower all help to support the Lady Bird vision that is still alive and well today.
