National Automobile Museum

National Automobile Museum

Just south of the Truckee River in Reno, you will find the National Automobile Museum, a local museum that displays historic automobiles from the late 19th century and throughout the 20th century. You will find over 200 antique and vintage cars (220 to be exact), several educational and historical exhibits, as well as a well-stocked Automobile Research Library.

Created in 1989, this museum came about thanks to a massive collection from the late Bill Harrah. His final collection was massively impressive and today it lines the museum in various themed displays, from recreated cobblestone street scenes to modern day paved racetracks. Honk antique ‘ooga’ horns, dress up in period costumes to get an antique car selfie, or just walk around and see all the unique cars you can. The collection is quite extensive, holding vintage cars, classic cars, special interest cars, rare cars, dynamic race cars, and even horseless carriages. There are daily tours, storyboards and theater presentations within as well.

It will be easy to see why this spot has been named ‘one of America’s five greatest automobile museums’ after your visit! Be sure to stop by the onsite Museum Store before you go to pick up the perfect keepsake!
