Lan Su Chinese Garden
Behold, one of the greatest treasures of Portland, the Lan Su Chinese Garden! This highly popular local garden is one of the most interesting sites in the entire city, the garden representing a collaboration of Portland and Suzhou, a sister city in China’s Jiangsu Province.
Most famous for its Ming Dynasty Gardens, this 40,000 square foot park is one of the most authentic of its sort, outside of China. This creative work of art mixed with an authentic botanical garden was actually built by Suzhou artisans, aiming to provide the community (and tourists) with a powerfully inspiring experience, based on a 2,000-year-old Chinese tradition of melding art, architecture, nature, and design in perfect harmony.
A visit to Lan Su is like a peek through a gorgeous cultural window, giving you and your group a glimpse at a completely different history and tradition. Experience something new and different each season, the garden boasting seemingly endless vibrant options as mother nature changes courses. Guests of all ages will love learning all about the culture, the ecology, and the garden’s history itself, as well as all the surrounding interactive activities. Enjoy a garden tour, a game of mahjong, tai chi, calligraphy, special performances, art, tea, and even lectures regarding every subject from acupuncture to cooking with native herbs.
Your group will undoubtedly enjoy this experience, the whole garden being a sort of spiritual vacation in itself, an opportunity to escape from everyday problems and connect with nature. Lan Su literally translates into the term ‘Garden of Awakening Orchids,’ Lan meaning ‘orchid’ and su meaning ‘arise’, so enjoy the orchids, enjoy the experience, and awaken your senses to a whole new nature!
