Strategic Air Command and Aerospace Museum
Air and spacecraft, displays and exhibits, exciting simulator rides, a theater, a restoration hangar, and kid-friendly activities abound await at Omaha's Strategic Air Command and Aerospace Museum, one of the cities most insightful and most visited museums overall.
Upon visiting this museum your group will have the option to take a public tour, offered daily at 11 am and last about 2 hours or a private tour by appointment. A special rate is offered for groups of 20 or more. During a tour, you will get to explore the over 300,000 square feet of exhibits, STEM exhibits, and get up close to history with displays that are all meant to 'educate, inspire, and entertain'.
The exhibits you will discover cover a wide range of topics and historical themes, some of the most popular ones including Courage From Above, Bombers of WWII, Homeland Astronauts, and the Vietnam Memorial Wall. There is also a planetarium onsite for field trip groups to take advantage of, as well as a flight simulator (FS-VC Dual System). The flight simulator provides state of the art motion control features and 3D visuals, capturing the realism of flight, combat, or roller coaster rides perfectly.
Of course, the feature presentation of this museum is the air and spacecraft themselves, the Museum is caretaker to one of the largest Cold War collections and offers a WWII exhibit that includes 5 strategic bombers from that era. Guests can get up close and personal to see aircraft like an SR-71 Blackbird, B-36 Peacemaker with an XF-85 Goblin, a B-58A Hustler, B17G Flying Fortress, and so much more.
*Note: Younger groups be sure to visit the Children's Learning Center onsite or ask about a field trip offering.
