Shakespeare on the Green
Shakespeare on the Green is a highly popular summer event in Omaha, a completely admission free attraction that allows your group to sit down, relax, and enjoy the musings of Shakespeare in the open night air.
With its performance home stationed at the 'lovely tree-lined grove' of Grace Young Park, just south of the UNO Bell Tower, Shakespeare on the Green puts on regular seasonal performances including such Shakespeare classics as the Merry Wives of Windsor, King Lear, Twelfth Night, Richard 2, and Romeo and Juliet. By presenting these works to the public the company hopes to 'broaden the cultural and educational environment of the community and strive[s] to produce innovative Shakespeare productions and educational forums.' The goal is essentially to make these literary classics a part of society past literature and drama.
Guests are encouraged to bring chairs and/or blankets to fully enjoy their experience, as well as bring some cash for the pre-show entertainment and activities. On performance nights the event will always start at 6 pm, with several fun family-friendly activities, as well as nearby eateries and souvenir shops (Town Square). Grab a bite at Lauren Beth's Popcorn or Prarie Fire Pizza, or maybe just a drink at Tap Dancers Coffee or Maui Wowi Smoothies. The play will always begin at 8 pm, the total performance time an average of 2.5 hours including intermissions.
