Effie Yeaw Nature Center
To experience natural bliss within the bustling urban Sacramento scene head to Effie Yeaw Sacramento Nature Center, one of the best spots in town to experience local nature and wildlife. This nature center is full of educational exhibits, indigenous animals, and nature trails, the entire site a part of the 100-acre American River Parkway Nature Preserve. The preserve is full of riparian and oak woodlands, meadows, aquatic habitats, and shrublands, plus, of course, plenty of wildlife. There are also peaceful ponds and rivers scattered about the landscape.
‘Watchable Wildlife’ viewings here are highly reliable, so be sure to bring some binoculars and your hiking boots. See deer, coyotes, wild turkeys, snakes, squirrels, rabbits, hawks, owls, songbirds, and waterfowl, throughout. This entire conservation-minded collection has seen over 1.6 million visitors since opening, an impressive feat for any natural preserve.
Opt-in for a school program, group tour, or adult learning program during your visit, there are even various nature camps to participate in. Each of these options allows you to hike around the grounds and learn about how Effie Yeaw has been conserving and protecting this land for over 40 years now.
