Franklin G Burroughs- Simeon B Chapin Art Museum
The Myrtle Beach and Grand Strand area’s only art museum, the Franklin G Burroughs - Simeon B Chapin Art Museum, is always an excellent place to stop while in the area. Also sometimes just referred to as The Myrtle Beach Art Museum, this stop will provide your group with several exhibits, educational workshops, and exquisite artworks representing a wide variety of subject matters and time periods. Divided into 11 different galleries and 4 different permanent collections (rotating, mostly stored away), your group will be able to spend an ample amount of time here exploring all that the museum has to offer.
The building itself, a quaint seaside cottage, was first established in 1924, though it did not become an official museum until 1997. The scenery around it is the very essence of Myrtle Beach, the door just steps away from the Atlantic, the path to lined with gorgeous live oaks all along the way.
This ‘beacon of culture’ holds regularly scheduled programs, workshops, and events, each of varying levels ensuring that guests of any age will be thoroughly entertained and educated. Explore the various paintings, sculptures, videos, photographs, ceramics, and textile works with your group on your own or sign up for a special docent-led tour during your visit to see it all (rather, we will set up a special docent-led tour for you).
Some of the most popular works of art featured here have come from such iconic artists as Brian Rutenberg, John Green, Norman Rockwell, Ansel Adams, and even Frank Lloyd Wright. The younger crowd will enjoy the animated films feature section, as well as the Goodnight Moon works.
