Mollie Kathleen Gold Mine
The Mollie Kathleen Gold Mine in Cripple Creek is a 'true marvel of human engineering', a historic mine that allows you to travel down 1,000 feet and back in time into one of the busiest gold mines during the Colorado Gold Rush.
Located in Cripple Creek, this gold mine produced gold for decades, though now it is simply a 'tour mine' sharing education about mining, geology, and Colorado's gold rush history. The mine allows your group to see how miners got gold ore from beneath the Rocky Mountains, with various tools, equipment, and other artifacts on display for visitors.
Your tour of the cave will begin with a 100 story decent underground inside a 'man-skip' elevator. You will be given a hard hat and protective jacket while you explore the mine below, viewing real gold veins, old equipment, and mineral deposits. You will also ride an underground tram air locomotive, then head back above ground and explore the various outbuildings and extra equipment. During your tour, you will learn all about Mollie Kathleen herself, who was the first woman to stake a claim in the area!
