Historic Manitou Springs
Explore fascinating local cultural history here at Historic Manitou Springs, the lively Colorado Springs community that holds educational and recreational attractions great for any ages!
This area was once home to native tribes such as the Ute, Arapaho, and Cheyenne, who considered the eruption of bubbles in the mineral water found here to be the breath of the 'Great Spirit of Manitou'. In 1868 Dr. Bell and General Palmer took advantage of the area's 'wellness waters' and put in place a plan for a resort and wellness resort. The rest is history, as several celebrities, tourists, and sick people soon flocked to the area to soak up the healing waters, which are filled with lithium, magnesium, and potassium.
