Destination Vacation – Top Summer Getaways 2016

This week on Twitter we are promoting the extremely fun and informative summer vacation week 2016 (#svweek2016), a week full of the best 5 summer vacation ideas from the staff at Adventure Student Travel. We did our research, observed our customer's wants, and used personal experience to give you these wonderful ideas for the perfect 2016 summer break vacation.

While we know that most travelers would prefer a long, tranquil cruise through the tropics, sometimes that is not within your means, whether for time or money reasons. That’s why we, instead, suggest a one night cruise in a city full of spectacular sights, smells, and sounds! New Orleans is a literal haven for unique southern culture, a French-creole paradise full of some of the most authentic foods, music, and of course, nightlife. Take full advantage during your visit of the Steamboat Natchez Cruise, a highly popular Dinner Jazz Cruise that will float you down the mighty Mississippi. This steamboat has quite an interesting history, a turbulent Civil Wartime, and the Gay Nineties (1890s) in NOLA. This steamer is one of only two of its kind and will take you on a two-hour journey from the heart of French Quarter to the New Orleans Port, giving you the best narration, food, and entertainment all along the way!

Up and down the entirety of the extensive California coast,  you will find dozens of charming small towns, busy and breezy beaches, and rocky cliffs that show off the very best of the Golden State. Getting away from all the major hubs of activity in this gorgeous state can make for a seriously memorable, relaxing, and all-around enjoyable summer vacation. These little dream towns and beaches along the coast are full of quaint attractions and marvelous vistas, and allow you to truly see the more natural side of Cali. If you need a few ideas, head to Solana Beach, Pacific Palisades, Carmel-by-the-Sea, or Bodega Bay. Each site holds unique landscapes, sea access, history, and culture for you to immerse yourself in!

Hawaii is a no brainer when it comes to dreaming summer destinations. Many travelers enjoy staying on the two smaller islands, and while those are excellent places to see great beaches and resorts, we at AST prefer the adventures available on the Big Island. While exploring all that this island of Hawaii has to offer you will see such amazing sights as the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, Rainbow Falls, and Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden. The beauty of these natural wonderlands is worth it, though you will also have the chance to take eco-tours, snorkel and diving trips, eat the most delicious local food, and shop as the locals do. Our tip? Head to Hilo’s weekend farmers market, you will find the absolute best variety of local produce that will be sure to peak your interests!

One of the most popular up and coming hot spots for spring break and summer vacations is the southern comfort-filled South Padre Island. Located along the Gulf of Mexico, this sizzling spot provides warm breezy beaches with over 34 miles of white sand and clear emerald waters. This city is one of the world’s most exquisite barrier islands and will allow your group to camp under the stars, see sea turtles, take some surfing lessons, or eat all the amazing Tex Mex authentic foods you can! Snorkel at the popular Laguna Madre Estuary, see the sunset from Pier 19 and immerse yourself into the local maritime and cultural history. The scenery and attractions on this Texan island are truly spectacular!

Pennsylvania sure knows how to vacation properly, boasting the Pocono Mountains in the northeast, a rolling mountain terrain full of gorgeous waterfalls, winding river shores, and amazing woodlands. This entire 4-county region is its own endless outdoor playground, full of several local adventure parks, water parks, snow sports, shopping opportunities, and over 150 lakes full of fun water recreation options. You will be able to ski the slopes, swim the rivers, or even catch a NASCAR race with the Spring Cup Series and Indy Car 500 races taking place here each summer weekend. The resorts will provide amazing golfing and spa opportunities, and the state and national parks will provide amazing hiking and biking trails. The Poconos also offer several culture-infused festivals during the summer and early fall, each sight, scene, and smell to behold sheds more light on the interesting history of this region!
