Welcome to the highly beloved Ijams Nature Center, the urban nature park located off of Island Home Avenue in Knoxville. Here your group will have the amazing opportunity to explore wetlands and rock formations, with over ten miles of navigable trails and opportunities to rent bikes and canoes. Originally a simple yet stunning homestead owned by the local Ijams family, this nature preserve has turned into a large area in which to go and admire, love and care for the earth. This park is so popular, as a matter of fact, that it has been ranked one of the top three Knoxville attractions by TripAdvisor, earned the Certificate of Excellence in 2013 and 2014 by USA Today, and is known as the "best park and extreme adventure in town" by CityView Magazine. This is the perfect opportunity for your group to really learn and connect with the natural world, all while taking in the local culture and natural surroundings of Knoxville.
While here your group can choose between such activities as hiking, biking, paddling, learning, strolling, or simply relaxing. Explore the rocks, rivers, trees and trails, you may even see some owls or salamanders along the way. Hit the Visitor Center for more formal and in-depth information, rent a canoe at Mead’s Quarry, visit Jo’s Grove, see the famous Keyhole at Ross Marble, visit the 20-acre Ijams homestead, or catch a gorgeous glimpse of the Tennessee River, and maybe some Great Blue Herons, from the River Boardwalk. Trek the Hayworth Hollow Trail to see southern style moss covered scenery, or if you are in the mood for more of an adventure head up to the treetops, for an exciting Canopy Adventure! Before you go head to the Ijams Gift Shop to pick up any nature related souvenirs, educational items, or apparel, and also check to see if there are any daily classes, programs, or educational lectures happening during your visit!
